Iron Bridge – Huron Shores residents have a new recycling schedule as the municipality’s waste disposal sites shift to winter hours.
Until March 31, the new hours at the four locations are Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Green for Life (GFL) is the contractor for recycling services in Huron Shores. GFL owns the recycling bins at the waste sites, with the goal of collecting items on a regular basis. Recyclable items include No. 1 through No.6 plastics, paper and cardboard.
The current annual fee for recycling services, billed monthly to Huron Shores, is $54,240. To help offset costs, the municipality receives a municipal GST rebate and funding support for recycling from Stewardship Ontario. In 2018, Huron Shores received $20,172 from that latter source.
The municipality, under the Ontario Tire Stewardship Program, also accepts tires from residents at the Thessalon Township (Ward 1) and Iron Bridge (Ward 3) sites at no charge. The Huronshores.ca website gives further information on local recycling options.
