A junior student is needed to serve as Mayor for a Day in Sault Ste. Marie.
Grade 5 and 6 students can apply for the fourth annual event. Deadline is Oct. 11.
The winner opens a city council meeting on Oct. 22, tours the Civic Centre, meets with Mayor Christian Provenzano, attends a Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie North luncheon and enjoys a pizza party with their classmates.
Provenzano calls Mayor for a Day “a great opportunity for local youth to learn more about municipal government.”
Students can submit a letter, video “or any other creative piece” that explains why they’d like to be mayor for a day, what they would do if they were mayor and what they enjoy most about Sault Ste. Marie, a release says.
A completed application form must be submitted. It’s available at saultstemarie.ca/mayorforaday
Entries can be emailed, mailed or brought to the mayor’s office at Civic Centre, 99 Foster Dr.
The winner will be announced Oct. 18.
